Overhead Door Corporation Reno Nevada – A Proud History

If you have ever wondered who it was that came up with the idea of inventing the upward-lifting garage door – wonder no longer: the man’s name was C.G. Johnson, and he was the founder of Overhead Door Corporation, Reno, Nevada. Along with inventing the design of the upward-lifting garage door (in 1921), Johnson is also responsible for inventing one of the modern luxuries of most American homes – the electric door opener (which he invented in 1926).

Although today the company is owned by a parent company in Japan, it still continues to enjoy all of the benefits associated with a Nevada corporation (which would be the case even if the directors of the company itself was now physically located in Japan, as Nevada state law does not require state incorporated companies to be physically present in the state; provided the entity has a resident agent in the state). With the company still being recognized as the leading single source manufacturer of integrated doors and operator systems for commercial, industrial and residential applications, the company is most like happy to still be affiliated with the State of Nevada, where it can enjoy zero-rate taxation on its corporate income.

Over the period of time, however, from the days when Johnson first opened the doors (pun intended!) of Overhead Door Corporation, to today’s staff of leading designers and engineers, the genuine benefits of operating this small to medium enterprise from Nevada has meant that it has managed to do something more than many of its competitors – it has not only managed to stay in business through some of the most trying times in modern history, but has even managed to go from strength-to-strength.
